We’re excited to share that The Merchant—our adaptive reuse project in Columbus’ Olde Towne East—has been featured in CoworkingCafe’s recent article, “Think Outside the Cubicle: Coworking Spaces in Repurposed Buildings.”

Originally constructed in 1903 as the E.O. Snyder Grocer, this historic brick building has been thoughtfully transformed into a modern coworking space. Spanning 7,300 square feet across three floors, The Merchant offers a variety of workstations, contemporary amenities, and a generous outdoor courtyard.

Our design team worked carefully to preserve the building’s original character while introducing new life into the space. Explorative studies led to retaining the brick arches and detailed masonry, while incorporating industrial-style black-framed windows. To honor its history through branding, the team selected vintage-inspired signage and lighting. A new glass storefront enhances natural light, counterbalancing the building’s formerly choppy floor plan that limited daylight and circulation.

The first floor was opened up to accommodate a welcoming reception area, a large communal coworking zone, kitchenette, and a variety of seating options. On the second floor, reconfigured walls created private offices and conference rooms that support a range of modern workstyles.

As the architectural firm behind this transformation, The Columbus Architectural Studio is honored to help revitalize a piece of Columbus’ history—creating a space where past and present coexist harmoniously.
